Alexandria, VA, June 19, 2024 — DNPs of Color (DOCs), a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing diversity in doctoral nursing practice through networking, mentorship, and advocacy, proudly announces its namesake awards honoring trailblazers in nursing practice.

The McCamey-DeWitty Founders Award for Lifetime Achievement and Distinguished Service is named in honor of Dr. Danielle McCamey and Dr. Vernell DeWitty, two pioneering individuals who broke barriers and set new standards in nursing education and practice. This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, leadership, and impact in the nursing profession over their careers. Their tireless efforts have not only advanced the field of nursing but also fostered greater inclusivity, diversity, and belonging.

The Dr. Kechinyere Iheduru-Anderson Outstanding Scholars Award is named in honor of Dr. Iheduru-Anderson, a renowned DNP prepared scholar and educator whose research has substantially influenced nursing practice. This award is dedicated to recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to research, teaching, and scholarly publications.

“We felt it was right to honor these game changers and trailblazers while they are living to be recognized and enjoy the fruits of their contributions to nursing,” said Board Chair, Dr. Dwayne Alleyne. “DeWitty, McCamey, and Iheduru-Anderson are members of DNPs of Color and bring tremendous value to our organization. They are making history as we speak, and it is only fitting that they be honored in this way,” added Ravenne Aponte, Board Historian.

The awards ceremony will take place on October 19, 2024, at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA. This event will bring together professionals from across the nursing and healthcare spectrum to celebrate the achievements of these remarkable individuals.
