DNPs of Color and The DAISY Foundation™ Announce Collaboration to Celebrate and Support Diverse Nurse Leaders
Alexandria, VA — March 13, 2025: DNPs of Color (DOC) and The DAISY Foundation are proud to announce a new collaboration aimed at recognizing and celebrating the contributions of diverse Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) leaders who are transforming healthcare. This partnership aligns with both organizations’ missions to elevate and honor nurses, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, as they advance health equity, advocate for systemic change, and deliver compassionate, patient-centered care.
At over 4 million strong, nurses are the backbone of healthcare, and DNP-prepared nurses play a critical role in leadership, education, and clinical practice. However, nurses of color remain significantly underrepresented in healthcare leadership roles. This collaboration seeks to amplify the impact of diverse nursing leaders through recognition, storytelling, and advocacy, reinforcing their essential contributions to patient outcomes, health policy, and workforce transformation.
“As we continue to push for a more representative and inclusive nursing workforce, it is critical that we celebrate the impact of diverse DNP leaders,” said Dr. Danielle McCamey, Founder & CEO of DNPs of Color. “Partnering with The DAISY Foundation allows us to highlight the voices, expertise, and leadership of nurses of color, ensuring they receive the recognition they deserve for their contributions to nursing excellence.”
Since its founding, The DAISY Foundation has honored nurses worldwide for their extraordinary clinical skills and compassionate care. The program has grown to over 7,000 healthcare organizations and nursing schools globally, offering a meaningful way for patients, families, and colleagues to acknowledge the profound difference nurses make in people’s lives.
“Recognizing and retaining a diverse nursing workforce is essential to achieving equitable healthcare outcomes,” said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, Doctor of Humane Letters (h.c), Co-founder of The DAISY Foundation. “By working together with DNPs of Color, we can celebrate the extraordinary efforts of nurses from diverse backgrounds and ensure their leadership in healthcare is acknowledged, valued, and supported.”
Together, DNPs of Color and The DAISY Foundation will continue to advocate for a nursing workforce that reflects the communities it serves and is positioned to drive meaningful change in healthcare.
