Danielle McCamey, DNP, APRN, ACNP-BC, FCCP grew up in a single-parent family home in Northern VA. Inspired by her mother, she became a nurse and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia.
Dr. McCamey started her nursing career at Georgetown University Hospital. Shortly afterwards, she obtained her Master of Science from Georgetown University, specializing in Acute Care Advanced Practice. She then received a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Georgetown University, where her dissertation focused on integration of palliative care screening of neurosurgical patients on admissions.
She has over 16 years of critical care nursing experience and nearly a decade as an Acute Nurse Practitioner. Currently, she works as the Chief Advanced Practice Provider of the Preanesthesia Testing Department and Senior Advanced Practice Provider in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. She also is chair of the MedStar Doctoral Nurses Collaborative. In 2019, she was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians.
Dr. McCamey is the founder, CEO and president of DNPs of Color, Inc., was inspired to create DNPs of Color because she wanted to create a space, a community for DOCs to elevate themselves, the nursing profession and communities through the richness of our diversity. Danielle has a passion for mentoring students, especially those interested in nursing. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with family and riding her motorcycle.

DNPs of Color Hosts Class of 2020 Virtual Commencement
ALEXANDRIA, VA (June 10, 2020) – In an effort to recognize DNPs of Color who have defied the odds and honor their achievements in representing their communities, DNPs of Color (DOCs) will host its inaugural Virtual Commencement on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 11am EDT.
“The class of 2020 has experienced a universal shift marked by unprecedented historical events in healthcare and society with the coalescence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the global outcry against racism and growing support for the Black Lives Matter movement. These events have unearthed deeply rooted issues in America, yielding opportunities for these DNPs of Color graduates to forge a path creating real change within healthcare,” said Dr. Danielle McCamey, President and CEO of DOCs. “These DNPs of Color are our future and hope in representing Black and Brown communities in leadership, academia, research and clinical practice.”
The Virtual Commencement keynote address will be delivered by Sandra Davis, PhD, DPM, ACNP-BC, FAANP, currently an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the George Washington University School of Nursing. Her research interests are health disparities, health equity, social determinants of health, and healthcare simulation. Dr. Davis has been in academia for 20 years serving in both faculty and administrative roles.
